Modern - Acrobatic Figure - Unknown Location3D ModelNoAI
Likely one of a number of carvigns made in the 00s. This carvings can be classed as modern. The provenance of this carving is unknown, just that it was sold at auction about 20 years ago, and if Irish it possibly comes from the East of the country. It has a number of unusal features, but does fit with the acrobatic style of carving which is rare in an Irish context. There are similarities with other carving but rurther reserach is required.
The style is acrobatic with the head placed between the legs, the right which points down and outwards, while the left points up and while broken the foot can be seen turned towards and resting on the head. The head is sub oval, with large round eyes and a rectangular nose. The mouth is presented as a sub-oval opening. The body cannot be seen and there appears to be damaged to the stone in places. The carving falls into the wider class of acrobatic or exhibitionists figures. Any information on a possible source is welcome.
