Monasteroris Church (OF011-009007-) Gable3D Model
West gable of the medieval parish church of St. John the Baptist at Monasteroris (Mainistir Fheorais/ Peter’s Monastery), located near the town of Edenderry, Co. Offaly. The top of the gable was surmounted by a bell-cote, the partial remains of which are visible rising from the apex of the gable. Two blocked-up doorways are visible in the ground floor of the gable. A blocked-up ope with wicker-centred arch is visible in the wall at first floor level immediately above the ground floor doorway on the southern side of the gable. A second blocked-up flat-headed ope is visible at first floor level on the northern side of the gable above a second ground floor doorway. A Franciscan Friary was founded at Monasteroris in 1325 under the patronage of Peter de Bermingham. During the 19th century the interior of the church was sub-divided into private burial places for the local gentry.
