More model informationThe 160 ft wooden steam barge Monohansett was built in 1872. In 1907 the old ship caught fire while seeking shelter from a storm behind Thunder Bay Island on Lake Huron. The entire 12 man crew was rescued by the crew of Thunder Bay Island Life Saving Station. Today although only a small part of the ship still exists, it is one of the Thunder Bay Marine Sanctuary’s most popular shipwreck sites and is visited by glass bottom boat tours, kayakers, and snorkelers.
