More model informationMorion made from two pieces. Decorated with ten rivets on the lower edge. Inside are remnants of the leather covering, arched crest over the middle of the helmet. The helmet is in the Heiligenkreuz Abbey Museum. Iron, leather; 36x24 cm; 16th century.
The morion is an open helmet type without a visor, which developed in the first half of the 16th century from the shape of the Spanish cabasset (Spanish version of the iron hat). The morion was used until the beginning of the 17th century. The Swiss Guards of the Vatican still wear morions today.
