More model information

This distinctive prehistoric carved stone is located on private farmland in the Eastwoods Rough area near Dacre, North Yorkshire.

It was discovered in April 2006 by Paul Bennett, who first noticed a groove at the northern end of the stone. After carefully removing the overlying turf, clusters of cup marks along with an unusual large carved bowl featuring a central countersunk cup, enclosed within a kettle-like pattern that includes additional cups and grooves carved in different phases.

Originally nicknamed the “Snoopy Stone,” the carving was later renamed the “Morphing Stone” as repeated visits revealed new elements of design and it seemed to continually morph.

Dr. Keith Boughey subsequently included the stone in his regional archive, referencing it as IAG638b.

This 3D model was created from nine stereo image pairs, captured in April 2006 by Paul Bryan of English Heritage’s Metric Survey Team.
