More model informationThis helmet was originally placed above the tomb of Sir Robert Montgomerie in Skelmorlie Aisle, a private worship place and burial vault for Sir Robert and his wife, Dame Margaret Douglas.
They ordered the laird’s loft and monumental tomb to be built in 1636 as an addition to Largs Parish Church.
Sir Robert oversaw the construction of his own tomb. He’s said to have spent nights there, contemplating the murderous errors of his early life.
