More model informationMaking their first appearance sometime during the Cenomanian-Turonian periods (97-90 mya) of the Cretaceous, mosasaurs were soon to colonize and dominate the oceans and seas of the ancient world. Coinciding with their vast distribution, a rapid diversification was taking place with many new genera and species continually appearing throughout the remaining of the Cretaceous. For the next 25-30 million years, these marine reptiles would dominate the waters of the Cretaceous. Bt the end of the Cretaceous, mosasaurs became extinct alongside many other animals that lived at the time. Shown here, is a scan of an actual mosasaur paddle in the collection of ERMNH.
