More model informationMourasuchus is an extinct genus of caiman from the Late Miocene of the Solimões Formation of Amazonian Brazil. The specimen was described by Prince in 1964 and named Mourasuchus amazonensis.
Its skull is long, broad, and flat as duck-like, with slender mandibles that still lead to some considerations about the feeding habits of this taxon. These characters resembles Stomatosuchus and Laganosuchus from the Late cretaceous, but Mourasuchus is more close related with the genus Purussaurus and Paleosuchus
Presently, besides M. amazonensis, three other species are validated; M. atopus, M. arends, and M. pattersoni
