More model informationYunnan Province, China, ~518 million years old.
Myllokunmingia had a head with a pair of eyes and a nasal opening, up to six pairs of gills housed in pouches on the lower surface of the head, and a dorsal fin supported by stiff radial rods. It also had Z-shaped blocks of muscle and would have been able to swim freely through the water by moving its body side-to-side like a fish.
