This is a forgotten corner of Benbecula with only four entries on Canmore. The area is an archipelago of islands - three main islands, Triallabreac, Eilean na Cille and Fodragaigh together with a host of smaller. Most of the islands are interconnected at low tides but some require a boat or a swim to reach. Access to the port is now easy by a series of causeways making Eilean na Cille permanently accessible.
Recently I have taken an interest in this forgotten corner of Benbecula and over three brief field trips have managed to identify around 100 sites of interest, all of which deserve recoding as part of the official records. This archipelago was certainly an important economical unit on the Western Isles, and considerable investments in materials and people were made.
This building (mid-19th Century) was probable the tack-master’s house, on a NW peninsula of Fodragaigh. Several extensive kelping sites have been identified together with a large number of turf-walled houses on the high ground.
