This project was originally created as an individual one, commissioned by one of the first in the USSR housing-construction cooperatives «Mayak» in Leningrad. This buildings became an event in the architectural practice of Leningrad. They had a simple, but peculiar plastic appearance: alternation of multi-colored bricks in the facades, «interruption» of the number of storeys, a memorable ratio of blank walls, loggias, openings. The small built-up area made it easy to place it into a variety of sections and quarters. In addition, these nine-storey buildings were relatively inexpensive to manufacture. The project became all-Union and was often used in cooperative construction. Critics noted: «the house remains a model for achieving an expressive result with the most meager means». In addition, the project was noted by publications in the prestigious foreign publications L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui in 1964 and The Architectural Review in 1965.
