In late November, 2020, the Nanaimo Art Gallery closed shop for an exhibition titled Border X. The show ehibited works by Skaters and indiginous artists who express their relationship to the land and their cultural identity through skate/snowboarding. One such work even featured a video projection of a photoscanned model of an indigenous blanket. It was very impressive.
The work that this model is based on is a mini-ramp that was constructed inside a small section outside the main gallery space. So long as attendess book the space in advance, participants are free to us the ramp as they pleased, with skate boarding equipment provided by the gallery that are based on works in the show titled Colonialism Skateboards.
As you can see, there had been some new additions to the skate ramp created by participants from a education program called “Art Lab”. Thanks to some new tech, including a new camera, the scan turned out a lot better than last time… With some blury images.
