More model informationThe Native peoples of South Florida relied heavily on shells for their material culture. An artifact found in the Upper Florida Keys is made from the columella, or central whorl, of a large Horse Conch. The 27 centimeter (11 inch) long piece looks like an auger or drill bit, but it was most likely used as a gouge, pick, or hammer.
