More model informationFound in Gruinart on the north of Islay and dating from the Neolthic period or the early Bronze Age, this macehead would originally have been mounted on a shaft. Creating the macehead would have been a very time-consuming process, boring the hole with a wooden drill bit with sand and water. Due to the length of time it took to make, and the skill required, it could have been used as a weapon, but would more likely have been used as a ceremonial weapon and a symbol of power.
