More model informationThis pestle macehead is one of the finest known examples. It was found in Orkney, but its precise findspot is not known.
This artefact formed part of James Walls Cursiter’s (1851-1939) extensive collection of prehistoric artefacts from Orkney and Shetland. This collection was donated to the Hunterian Museum c.1914.
The serrated white label ‘884/19’ indicates this artefact was exhibited by Cursiter that the 1911 Scottish Exhbition, Glasgow.
