Neolithic Polished Stone Ball, Tresness, Orkney3D Model
This polished stone ball was discovered in the north compartment of Tresness Stalled Cairn, Sanday, Orkney in August 2021. The ball was carefully deposited in a corner of the compartment, probably as a grave good, alongside a small piece of bone, which was unfortunately too poorl preserved to determine if it was human or animal.
This ball dates from c.3200 cal BC, toward the end of the early Neolithic in Orkney. Comparable polished stone balls have been found in passage tombs in Ireland, such as Loughcrew, County Meath.
