Grooved Stone Sinker Weight (net weight) found on the banks of the Connecticut River in New Hampshire. Sinker weights were utilized to hold the net in place, keeping the net straight and stable in river currents. The purpose of the groove in the sinker stone is so a rope could be easily fastened to the stone and then to the bottom of the net to hold the net straight. Fish would get caught in the net , then could easily be pulled out. Net weights were frequently used in rivers, streams, and waterways by Native Americans.
