More model informationThis netsuke depicts the Chinese Tang emperor Xuanzong (AD 685-762) and his beautiful consort Yang Yuhuan (Yang Guifei, AD 719-756) playing a flute together, seated on an elaborately decorated throne. One of the oldest examples of netsuke in the British Museum, this netsuke has acquired a beautiful golden patina with age.
