The exterior and interiors of the Windmill Base at New River Head, Islington, London. New River Head was a site established in 1613 to supply clean water from springs in Hertfordshire to London and consisted of reservoirs and pumping engines.

This building was constructed in the early 18th century and originally had high walls and six sails on its windmill. It was used to pump water from New River Head to the Upper Pond (now Claremont Square Reservoir). In 1720 the windmill was damaged in a storm and was replaced by a horse-powered engine.

New River Head is now undergoing a period of transformation and renovation to become the new Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration.
