Newcastle Cathedral ledger stone 1807, UK3D Model
A mid 19th Century ledger stone from Newcastle Cathedral in the UK. Also known as St Nicholas Cathedral, it has one of the largest collections of ledger stones (or ledgerslabs) in the country. Ledger stones are gravestones built into the floor of a church or cathedral, marking the resting place of someone important. If you were a wealthy family in the North East of England, it was the way to show your value, and merchants clammered to secure their resting place for the afterlife while prominently displaying their family name. Newcastle Cathedral has 136, dating from around 1560 up to the 1800s. This ledger stone model has been created using photogrammetry by ExplorAR in order to preserve it for future generations. #PreserveOurPast
