More model informationDonatello (1386-1466), Nicola da Uzzano - the polychrome bust of the famous Florentine stateman. Donatello’s autorship is contested. The work is of high quality and is one of the oldest Renaissance busts. The naturalistic rendering of the subject is highly accentuated, with the physiognomy, which, as confirmed by the restoration, derives from a mold taken directly after the mortuary mask. Particular attention is paid to the anatomical details of the facial and epidermis muscles, which are not typical for Donatello. Polychrome terracotta, reproduction after the original in the National Museum in Florence, was part of Simu Museum, and now it is in the Museum of the Architecture’s School in Bucharest.
