This project was the end-of-the-year project for the course ARTHIST 290 The Medieval Castle in Britain taught by Professor Matthew Woodworth at Duke University. This model is based on the stone keep of Norwich Castle, built between 1095-1110. Norwich Castle was chosen because of its intricate design - note the copious blind arcading, crenellations, and fake portcullises.
A note from the instructor: The students in this class had very little or no 3D modeling experience when they entered the class. The class was divided into teams of three or four students who could choose either to model a real medieval castle or to create an imaginary castle authentic to the medieval period in Britain. This group created their model in SketchUp under the guidance of Andrea Giordano and Cosimo Monteleone (University of Padua) and Hannah Jacobs (Wired! Lab, Duke University).
