A obra militar nº 10, «Forte da Carvalha», fez parte da 1º Linha de defesa do Distrito nº 1 das chamadas “Linhas de Torres Vedras”, cuja construção teve o seu início no ano de 1809, durante a segunda invasão peninsular das tropas francesas lideradas pelo Marechal Soult. Pela mesma altura, o duque de Wellington decide defender Lisboa, mandando edificar aquele que é considerado o mais eficiente sistema de fortificações de campo da História militar. O Forte da Carvalha foi construido a 394m de altitude, tendo detido uma guarnição de 400 homens, que serviam uma estrutura com 4 canhoeiras: 2 peças de calibre 12 e 2 peça de calibre 9. Fazia fogo cruzado com o Forte do Cego, constituindo os principais redutos defensivos do vale de Arruda.
