Assigned today as Facility 41302 and the Ordnance Storage Building (Florida Master Site File no. 8BR3055), this structure was originally identified as the Observation Pit when it was constructed concurrently with the Spin Test Building, Facility 1221 in 1956, the structure is located near the center of the LC 5/6 Spin Test Facility. The concrete foundation pad and poured concrete walls are protected on the northwest, northeast, and southwest sides by earthen revetments. Over its history, the structure has been assigned several, sometimes puzzling, names. From 1957 to 1959 the building was known as the Speed Rocket Building, and from 1960 to 1962 it was used as the Missile Research Test Shop. Throughout these periods, however, it continued to be unofficially identified as the Observation Pit. In 1963, it became a Systems Capsule Laboratory and in 1977 it became an Ordnance Storage Building-Spin Test, and in 1992 the name was changed again to the Ordnance Storage Building.
