More model informationThis partial sperm whale tooth comes from the Mio-Pliocene Capistrano formation of Aliso Viejo, California. The fossil was scanned with an Artec Eva and is in the Orange County Paleontology Collection, managed by OC Parks. A major difference between ancient and modern sperm whales is that modern sperm whales only have teeth on their lower jaws, whereas ancestral whales had both upper and lower teeth.
