More model informationThis ankle bone was found in the Monterey formation of what is now Aliso Viejo, in Orange County, California. Ankle bones evolve quickly because they are so closely tied to locomotion. Even when we can’t identify what genus a particular ankle belongs to, they can be useful to establish how many size classes of carnivore were in the environemnt at a given time. The fossil is in the Orange County Paleontology Collection, managed by OC Parks. It was scanned with an Artec Eva.
