Before you is the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theater – the oldest opera house in Ukraine.
The building was constructed by an Austrian architecture studio “Fellner & Helmer”, which designed theatres for Budapest, Dresden and Salzburg.
The architectural style of the theatre is Viennese Baroque, and the architecture of the audience hall follows the rococo style.
The unique acoustics of the horseshoe-designed hall allows performers to deliver even a whisper-low tone of voice from the stage to any part of the gallery.
This hall witnessed performances of many talented artists: writers – Peter Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; singers – Solomiya Krushelnytska and Enrico Caruso; ballerina – Anna Pavlova and dancer Isidora Duncan all performed under the same roof.
