Description: Nui atoll surrounded by the Pacific waters has the area of 3.37 km², which is inhabited by more than 500 Polynesians. The canoe was used by them for fishery and transportation on atoll’s waters. It was built in 1976 by a traditional method from a dugout tree trunk, which was built up with planks sewn with coconut fibre cords. The prow and the stern were covered with characteristic covers, sewn to the hull as well. Safety was provided by a single outrigger with poles attached directly to the float. A platform placed on them created the transport space. The canoe has the length sufficient for three passengers and was propelled by paddles.
