Antique oil lamp from the area of Syria and Jordan. This type of lamp is characterized by a teardrop-shaped reservoir with a biconvex profile and a pointed spout integrated into the lamp’s reservoir. The upper, domed part features a large filler hole surrounded by a relief bead, while a high, V-shaped bead surrounds the entire upper part of the spout, which is also decorated. This type, which probably originated in Palestine, enjoyed such popularity that it was produced in large quantities in Lebanon, the Decapolis, Palmyra, northern Syria, and even as far away as Mesopotamia. Exports and even local variants are attested throughout the eastern Mediterranean, in Asia Minor and as far away as Constantinople, as well as in Egypt. Ceramic; l 10,6 cm; h 4,8 cm.
