It is a fortress surrounded by stones near the top of Seongsan Mountain, overlooking the Namhan River. Ondalsanseong Fortress was named after the story of General Ondal, the son-in-law of King Pyeongwon of Goguryeo (reigned 559-590). It is not clear when this castle was built, but there is a record that it was already in the early Joseon Dynasty under the name Seongsanseong.
It is a small mountain fortress with a circumference of 683m, with walls of similar size stacked neatly both inside and outside. Inside the castle, relics from the Three Kingdoms period have been excavated, a well remains, and there is a trapezoid-shaped drain on the outside of the castle wall. The form of the southwest gate site and the protrusion of the east gate are noteworthy as they are rarely seen in ancient castles in Korea.
