Description: This specimen is a compact piece of dark red Jasper with brownish Opal. Jasper is generally a microcrystalline variety of chalcedony (SiO2) stained red by iron oxide inclusions (mostly hematite). Opal is amorphous, is not truly a mineral but a mineraloid, and does not occur in any crystals, except when it forms as a pseudomorph after another mineral.
