Opatów, tombstone of Krzysztof Szydłowiecki3D Model
Krzysztof Szydłowiecki (1466-1532) was one of the most powerful magnates of his time. He was The Great Chancellor of the Crown and Castellan of Sandomierz and Cracow. Because he was the owner of Opatów, he made the collegiate church the burial place of his family.
The Chancellor’s Tombstone was created in 1533-1541. It is one of the most outstanding examples of Renaissance tombstone sculpture in Poland. Its most famous element is the “Lament Opatowski”, a brass plate depicting a group of debating figures gathered around a table set in the center of the composition. The scene is often interpreted as courtiers who are lamenting the news of the death of Chancellor Szydłowiecki, but its true meaning is not completely clear.
