Ophanims are old testament angels, described in Ezekiel 1:15-13:20 alongside the cherubins. He saw them as the wheels of the chariot of god;
As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like topaz, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not change direction as the creatures went. Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around.
I came across an alternative concept of this angel a while back and decided to make my 3d version. Went for an organic look because it wasn’t creepy enough.
The fetus at the center is the central core of the being, the symbols around it rapresent the 4-headed cherubin that it’s tied to it. The eyes on each wheel also rapresent the cherubin heads (human, lion, ox, eagle).
