More model informationAlthough not related, Oreodonts resembled pigs in general appearance. They were rather heavily built with short legs. Their teeth, on the other hand, suggest that they wee early ruminants making them closely related to deer, sheep, and goats. They first appeared in early Oligocene but were so numerous by early Miocene that their fossils outnumber all other North American fossil mammals combined. They were particularly numerous in the Badlands region of South Dakota.
