Many folk believe that Orkney’s most dramatic monuments are Maes Howe, Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar situated in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site, but they are mistaken. Situated in the centre of Kirkwall, Orkney Library’s and Archive’s concrete balls have a global following and a visit never disapoints.

Famed for their ability to document Orkney’s weather, this example has been captured in 3d for the first time powerfully expressing a cold, damp and overcast November day.

You can find about more about these remarkable balls on Twitter @OrkneyLibrary.
