Ormaig, Exposure 1 South, Kilmartin Glen 3D Model
Ormaig is a major rock art site near Kilmartin Glen, on the west coast of Scotland. Exposure 1 South is the most intensively decorated outcrop at Ormaig and is recognised for its unusual symbols, including circular arrangements of cup marks contained within rings.
In 2007, I worked at Ormaig as an excavator and photographer during fieldwork by Southampton University and Kilmartin Museum. A large area of Exposure 1 South was excavated and carefully cleaned. Very few artefacts were recovered, in comparison to rock art sites I have worked at elsewhere, and only a few new motifs were recorded. Excavation revealed the distinctive domed shape of this outcrop, which had largely become buried in peat.
For these Ormaig surveys I have adopted the numbering scheme used during the excavation. Another version of this model has been uploaded which does not have photographic textures. N indicates True North.
Photogrammetry: Aaron Watson, February 2018.
