My attempt at a 3D reconstruction of a display sword I had at home. Hit with a sudden desire to try my hand at a shorter, simpler personal project, this is the piece I’d ultimately come to choose.
Certaintly, the hardest part had to be the portion of the hilt closest to the blade itself because of just how complex it was, and how difficult it was to get the exact shape as seen in the picture I was using, as well as looking at the sword in person.
The biggest issue with the texture of the hilt turned out not to be lining up the UV but managing to get a shot of the hilt’s intricate details with enough light to have an acceptable amount appear on the model, but doing so in a way where minimal amounts of the light reflects off of it due to the hilt itself being made of metal as well.
