The Plague Column, or The Holy Trinity monument, occupies the central area of the square in Osijek’s Tvrđa, built between 1729 and 1730 by the widow of General Petraš as a sign of permanent memory to the plague epidemic in Slavonia and Osijek.
The composition of this baroque monument is made of sandstone in the form of an obelisk on a circular base placed on a rectangular platform with a four-sided staircase. At the top of the obelisk is a composition symbolically depicting the Holy Trinity. Next to the central figure of the statue, at ground level, on the corners of the staircase are the figures of saints on the bases. And at the foot of the obelisk there are statues of four saints. At the level of these statues, towards the north, in a lying position, there is a statue of St. Rosalie.
