More model information

Ossahinta, launched on June 28, 1887, was one of the last steamboats on Skaneateles Lake. In response to the success of the steamboat Glen Haven, in service since 1876, a rival steamboat company was created by Samuel Allen and William Grime. The vessel was designed by the Skaneateles-based Bowdish Boat Company and built by the Geneva, NY boatbuilder Alonzo Springstead. The boat was 68 ft (20.7 m) long with a beam of 11.25 ft (3.4 m) and powered by a 30 HP single cylinder vertical engine with a Clyde pattern boiler.

From 1887 - 1905 Ossahinta was captained by George Cady. The boat was sold to the Auburn and Syracuse Electric Railroad in 1905 where it continued operations alongside Glen Haven and City of Syracuse. In 1909 Ossahinta was hauled out for repairs at Ten Mile Point. Following years of neglect, the vessel was burned to the waterline and sank sometime after 1914.

I would like to thank the Institute of Nautical Archaeology for funding the project that made this model possible.
