Osteoblasts are very acive cells that make new bone by producing Calcium salts and matrix. As an osteoblast matures into an osteocyte it forms protrugens called Canaliculi. Canaliculi are stuctures densly packed with cytoskeleton. As the osteocyte continues to produce matrix, it traps itself with in it and eventually dies.
