On Water Training - Boats have tilt/trim switches to raise and lower the engine or outdrive. While sitting in the water, the boat needs to be level from bow to stern. As people and equipment pile onboard, the balance gets off. Be sure to use your trim to rebalance your boat before departing. As you are out on the water, passangers are going to move around, food consumed etc so you are going to need to keep an eye on trimming the boat as you go. - While the boat is being operated in slolw speed, displacement mode, the trim should be all the way down. Keep it trimmed in when speeding up or coming onto plane. Trim out when on plane. Trimming out too much will cause the boat to porpoise or the propeller will cavitate. This will cause the boat to lose speed and come off plane. - There are steel flaps mounted on the transom. These trim tabs are also used to balance out the boat. The provide lift in order to compensate for speed, weight distrabutions and water conditions.
