On Water Training - Ferrying to Port to Depart the Pier - Set forward stern spring line and retrieve other lines. When the current has pivoted you this far, retrieve the spring line and use just enough forward gear to stem the current, which ferries the boat away from the pier. To stop ferrying, steer the bow straight into the current.
