P. lakustai is distinguished from the two other species, P. canadensis and P. perotorum by the one to three horns in the middle of the frill (called the “median parietal horns”) that are absent in both other species, and by the unfused bosses. Asymmetry in the epiparietal horns (the four, or in this case, 5 horns at the back of the frill) was more common than you might think, as is clearly demonstrated in fossils. My Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai is an old bull male, who’s seen a lot in his day. His scarred frill indicates he’s had a run in with a tyrannosaur more than once. He was reconstructed using fossil material, inspiration from other artist depictions, and a bit of my own imagination.
