Pahoehoe festoon lava (Corda) - Basaltic ropey3D ModelNoAI
Locality: Réunion Island, France
No.: 1901
Size: 9.9 x 6.4 x 2.8 cm
Type: Igneous extrusive (volcanic) rock
Description: Pahoehoe festoon lava (Corda) is a subtype of pressure ridge. Ridges on pahoehoe lava flows are regularly spaced ∼5–50 cm apart, where the ropy surface is dragged by the underlying molten lava into festoon patterns.
Basalt is a fine-grained volcanic rock consisting predominantly of plagioclase (P), pyroxene, ± opaque minerals (magnetite, ilmenite). In terms of texture, basalts are usually hypocrystalline, aphanitic, and commonly porphyric.
Essential minerals: plagioclase, mafic minerals (like pyroxenes, hornblende and/or biotite)
Non-essential minerals: hornblende, biotite and/or pyroxenes
