Palace of Soviets - an unfinished project to build a high-rise administrative building in Moscow for sessions of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and mass demonstrations. According to the plan of the architect Boris Iofan, the height of the Palace of Soviets together with the crowning one hundred meter statue of Vladimir Lenin was 415 meters. The Palace was to become the center of the new Soviet Moscow and the tallest building in the world, symbolizing the victory of socialism. The design and construction of the palace marked the transition to the Stalin Empire in Soviet architecture. Preparatory work began on the site - digging a huge excavation and construction of the foundation. The foundation of the building was to consist of two concrete rings 140 and 160 m in diameter and 21 m high. It was planned to install 64 steel columns on the rings, which formed the frame of the structure and could withstand the load of about 12 thousand tons.
