Evidence of the German occupation is visible beneath the streets of Paris. After WWI, bunkers and shelters began to be prepared throughout Paris to protect the population against bombs and gas attacks of a future war. Three of those shelters still exist in the catacombs, one of which is the bomb-proof bunker beneath the Montaigne high school, requisitioned in WWII by the Luftwaffe as their command post.
It’s a large room with interesing murals as well as some german signs painted (arrows to avoid being lost) or “Rauchen Verboten” and “Ruhe” (i.e. “Smoking prohibited” and “Silence”). Electric wires and the remains of a chemical toilet are still here.
Scanned with the iPhone12 Pro and Scaniverse. Please feel free to follow my collections of daily scans (link) as well as my scans in San Francisco, Paris, or in the catacombs: link
