More model informationIf you ever come to Portugal, you will surely stumble upon one of this custard tarts sooner or later.
This sweet treat is worldly known as “Pastel de Belém”, it was developed by a monk from (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) (name of the monastery), in 1837 after they closed the monastery.
The recipe is still a secret, only one place produces them according to the original recipe. Being that, all the other patisseries around the country sell “Pastel de Nata”, it is more or less the same without following the ancient recipe and the patented name.

BTW, It is best out of the oven just with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
