Peacock Flounder3D ModelNoAI
Bothus lunatus, the Peacock Flounder, is a marine flatfish that is found in the West Atlantic Ocean in both tropical and subtropical regions. These fish are commonly seen along Florida, Bermuda, and along coastal areas of South America to Brazil. These fish live along sand and rock bottoms in clear waters, including in coral reef and deeper water (up to 80 m) environments. Distinctive features include their flat round shape, and eyes that are located on one side (left side). Living specimens can be brightly colored on the eyed side, with a brown body that is accentuated with bright blue rings as well as blue spots near the head and fin areas. These fish average 35 cm in length. This specimen is part of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reference and research preserved biological specimens, and has been surface scanned with a structured light instrument by the University of South Florida Libraries as part of a collaborative digital database project.
