More model informationParish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the west of Altpölla. The Gothic staggered church with a Romanesque core is one of the oldest parish churches in “Waldviertel” (Lower Austria). The first construction phase, a Romanesque church with a round apse, took place around the middle of the 12th century. Around 1300, a chapel and a crypt were added. The Gothic choir dates from the second third of the 14th century. After destruction by the Hussites around the middle of the 15th century, the 14th century north aisle and sacristy were rebuilt. The south nave dates from 1467. In 1898 the neo-Gothic church tower was built and in 1906 the stair tower on the north side. The church was restored between 1951 and 1954.
