More model informationIn early 1944 Phoenix caissons were constructed and launched from many coastal sites in the UK. As part of the D-Day Mulberry Harbours the caissons were towed across the channel to the North Coast of France and partly sunk to provide a stable barrier and platform.
There is little evidence left at the launch sites however at Stone Point near Lepe the concrete foundations can still be seen.
This model is an approximate reproduction of the foundations with additional representations of what is likely to have happened during the construction and launch process. The facts and figures have been accumulated from many different sources and are published here as a very likely scenario.
